Carthography of Vienna´s Religions

The research project "Mapping Religions in Vienna" gives a complete survey of the religious landscape in Vienna at the beginning of the second decade of the 21st century, including concise descriptions of the religious groups and organisations covered. The data collected is published on the website of the project (http://kartrel.univie.ac.at/) as a database connected to a map of Vienna. The data will also provide a basis for generating further research-projects (e.g. qualitative social research) in the field, with a central focus on questions concerning "Religion and Migration in Vienna".

In the first stage of the project, funded by the Staatssekretariat für Integration (= Secretariat of State for Integration) and the Jubiläumsfond der Stadt Wien, the research team around
Prof. Hans Gerald Hödl collected basic data on more than 800 religious institutions and places in Vienna. In a second phase this data will be checked and supplemented by new research on the religious landscape of Vienna, and basic information on the religious groups covered will be given in the form of a digital encyclopaedia. Additionally, search functions of the database will be enhanced.
